Practicing in Spokane since 1985, Dr. Charboneau works with children and adults, specializing in those who struggle with depression and mood swings, shyness and social anxieties, panic attacks and phobias, obsessions and compulsions, chronic anxiety and worry, post-traumatic stress disorder, appetite disturbance, insomnia and other sleep disorders, anger and aggressiveness, oppositional defiance, job, career, and school difficulties, Attention-Deficit Disorder, self-esteem issues, coping problems, substance abuse, hyperactivity, or paranoia. He also works with the most challenging foster care child/foster parenting populations.

“The philosophy of this office is that if a child in a family has an issue, then the entire family has the issue,” according to Dr. Charboneau. “We work with the child to understand and change behaviors based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapies and positive reward systems. We work with the adults in the family to understand the underlying issues and to understand that rewarding the child for positive behaviors is always better than physical or negative responses. The ultimate goal of treating the patient is to minimize or cease the psychotropic drugs the patient is taking.”

Dr. Charboneau uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, relaxation exercises, sleep hygiene methods, and self-hypnosis to help clients develop greater control over their thoughts and actions so they can achieve positive goals in daily living.
